Disrupting Dysfunctional Thinking

We asked the ultimate question with the last community conversation for our Dysfunctions of the Decades & a Functional Future project: could our way of thinking be the biggest dysfunction of all?

Co-facilitated with Christopher Noe, PhD, a social enterprise consultant, a diverse group of citizens, business leaders, non-profit leaders and government leaders participated in a dialogue around what drives dysfunctional thinking and what we can do locally to break through it to create positive social change.

At the heart of this wide ranging conversation was the question of how to build an ecosystem that truly strives to innovate – socially, culturally, economically and politically -and what values do we need to embrace as a community to foster a healthy ecosystem which thrives in serving us all.

Beyond the many tactical suggestions for community projects we discussed (which WiseTribe will publish this week), is this fundamental, soul-searching kind of question that communities must pursue to establish their North Star, that orienting point towards an aspirational future.  Unearthing answers to this kind of question doesn’t come from agenda-driven meetings. It comes from discovery-based conversation and connecting informally in ways which allow us dream together and respectfully pursue understanding when our opinion’s differ.

We look forward to publishing a list of ideas proposed for community projects as a result of Dysfunctions of the Decades & a Functional Future and hope these lead us to collaborative learning opportunities which sparks Delray’s collective wisdom.
