Hold on to your yoga mats.
I don’t want to shock anyone … but as it so happens, Yogaaccessories.com is in favor of seniors practicing yoga. It’s crazy, but it’s true. They’ve taken the bold stance of advocating that a large and powerful audience participate in an activity that will lead to purchasing their products.
I wonder if you are as shocked as I am.
Anyhoo, putting my cynicism aside, they make some interesting points about the benefits and suitability of seniors practicing yoga in a short article on their site. Check it out if you are in any way interested in taking up — or continuing to practice — yoga.
The article touts many known benefits of yoga, including:
- Improved sleep habits.
- Improved circulation.
- Improved post-menopause bone density.
- Improved grip and overall strength (to fight arthritis symptoms).
- Lower blood pressure.
If you’re interested in one or more of these health improvements, you may want to give it a try.
As for me, I’m not doing it. But that’s specific to me. I do my workouts, but yoga is not part of my exercise routine. I have yet to be bitten by the yoga bug because yoga, for all its benefits, involves two of the things I dislike most in life: 1) stretching and 2) my wife telling me what to do. (My wife is a yoga instructor).
You may see the handwriting on the wall and predict yoga in my future. Not me. I’m holding out. I’ll continue to do the other exercises that I’m not too crazy about either. Am I nuts?
