This community conversation kicked off Dysfunctions of the Decades & a Functional Future, a project which spotlights topics critical to building a sustainable future and culminates in a community-led pop-up arts and culture exhibit the evening of Earth Day, April 22nd at WOO Creative in Delray.
“Toto, I’ve a feeling we‘re not in Kansas anymore.”
Last night’s discussion presented us with an all important consideration: Nationalism vs Globalism: Our New Political Reality-Where Do We go From Here?
Taking us well beyond the traditional dividing lines of Republicans vs Democrats, this conversation raised fundamental considerations for our future: how are we going to govern an interconnected, globalized world that’s moving faster and faster and does anyone have a vision towards this and, if so, how do we start earnestly discussing this reality?
Based on our experience, we suggest starting with your local community.
Feel free to borrow the formula we used to facilitate a meaningful discussion:
- Gather thoughtful people who can respectfully appreciate differing viewpoints
- Watch the TED Talk below. (Unlike most TED Talks, this one is an hour so you might want to serve some wine and cheese with it and take an intermission after 30 minutes)
- Give everyone a piece of paper and have them write Dysfunctional at the top of one side and Functional on the other side. As you watch the talk, have everyone right down points they find to be either Dysfunctional or Functional. Afterwards ask people to share their thoughts based on these terms versus using political ideologies.
- Most importantly, discuss how you can make change locally as a community.
WiseTribe’s vision is one of a wiser world through collaboration. We would love to hear the insights and ideas which come out of your community conversations. Please feel free to share on our Facebook page and thank you for this.
